Distinctive Features: Indoor, Outdoor, Corporate, Waterfront, Historical, Conservatory

Larger than New York’s Central Park and the country’s largest city island park, Belle Isle, designed by famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead, offers some of Detroit’s most treasured spaces in which to celebrate.

Historical, elegant Belle Isle Casino offers two stories and a covered wrap-around veranda, as perfect setting for any special occasion. Inside is bright and spacious dining with windows on all four sides. Photo opportunities abound around the entire island as the James Scott Memorial Fountain as well as bridges, stairs and a duck pond are an easy walk away.

If Belle Isle is Detroit’s crown jewel, then its Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory is its brightest emerald, full of brilliant plant life from all over the world. The conservatory on Belle Isle covers about an acre and has five areas, each housing plants native to different climate zones. Its 100,600 cubic foot, 85 foot high dome accommodates soaring palms and other tropical plants. The north wing is home to hundreds of cacti and desert plants and just beyond that is a room packed from floor to ceiling with ferns. The south wing features hundreds of species of tropical plants. Its collection also includes perennial gardens and displays of annuals. The show house, remodeled in 1980, features a continuous display of blooming plants.

Venue Tip

America’s largest city-owned orchid collections are housed in the conservatory, a picturesque spot for event photos; also consider kicking off your event with a cocktail reception on Belle Isle Casino veranda.
